Group tutorial preperation

First thing that comes too mind when I think of professional and/or industrial experience is learning and working inside of a skilled and established (in this case) Graphic design house/agency.

Professional -

  • Engaging in a given activity as a source of livelihood or as a career: a professional writer
  • Performed by persons receiving pay: professional football
  • Having or showing great skill; expert: a professional repair job
Experience -

  • Active participation in events or activities, leading to the accumulation of knowledge or skill: a lesson taught by experience; a carpenter with experience in roof repair
  • The knowledge or skill so derived.
  • An event or a series of events participated in or lived through.
Experience in the industry and working along side professionals is fundamental for my learning on this course.  Being in a graphic design house or design agency would set new levels of ambition in myself as a designer.  It could also help me establish the area of design I wish too pursue.
Gaining experience at several design houses would be great – learning more about each area of design could help influence and direct me in a certain aspect for a profession in design.
Too gain this experience I need too be researching into design houses - and the work they produce etc.  I have already been looking into Professionals and Design houses across the UK, from Leeds – London, and from London – Melbourne (Australia)
At the minute I am finding that doing research into each company I look at helps a lot, seeing their previous work - not only allows me too decide if I would like too get experience there, but also if they do the type of work at a standard I would like to achieve and learn.
By doing this research – I feel it lays down a strong foundation for me too stand upon when I send my first email.  I will have knowledge of the company’s history and the work they have produced which gives a great talking point.
When I eventually get around too doing my industrial experience I hope too see and learn a lot in different areas of design, including advertising, typography and illustration.  I would also love too get some experience with a printer over summer – this would help me learn a lot more about colour and paper stock etc.
